Each year BSCAI honors the industry’s leaders in safety, marketing and communications, community service and contributions to the industry. BSCAI’s Awards Program presents an opportunity for all BSCAI members to nominate those individuals who deserve to be recognized for their efforts. It is also an opportunity to recognize your company or employees with BSCAI’s Distinguished Service, Community Service and Building Service Employee of the Year Awards.
BSCAI is currently accepting awards submissions for the following industry awards:
• Walter L. Cook Award for Distinguished Service - The Walter L. Cook Award for Distinguished Service is presented to the BSCAI member who has made outstanding contributions in furthering the programs and image of the association, as well as the building service contracting industry.
• Industry Service Award - The Industry Service Award is presented in recognition of long-term service to the association by an individual or a company not engaged in building service contracting.
• Arthur C. Barraclough Company Community Service Award - The Arthur C. Barraclough Company Community Service award recognizes a company for their volunteer efforts for charities and the community. The winner will receive a crystal award that can be prominently displayed in their lobby, and BSCAI will make a cash donation to a charity of their choice.
• BSCAI Building Service Employee of the Year Award - Sponsored by Hillyard, Inc. The Building Service Employee of the Year Award honors a building service contracting employee whose job performance, civic involvement and family role best exemplify qualities found in superior custodial employees. The winner will be invited to receive the award at the convention's opening general session and receive round-trip coach airfare to the convention, complimentary two nights stay at the convention hotel and $1,000.

Stay Certified with BSCAI
You can’t celebrate or promote it if you don’t renew it!
Less than one percent of employees in the cleaning industry have earned the Certified Building Service Executive (CBSE) or Registered Building Service Manager (RBSM) designation. You have done the hard work to set yourself apart from the crowd. You should celebrate this achievement and use it to promote your professionalism.
If your CBSE and/or RBSM certification is up for renewal, don’t let it lapse. Please see the following details regarding recertification. All activities must be completed by July 1, 2010 to maintain your hard-earned designation.
CBSE Re-Certification
Recertifying your CBSE designation requires you to
demonstrate your continuing education efforts by:
• Accumulating 40 professional credits
• Submitting a completed recertification form every three years
to assist you with tracking your professional credits. Complete the application and submit it to the Certification and Registration department via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than July 1 to be eligible.
RBSM Re-Certification
Recertifying your RBSM designation requires you to submit a completed Knowledge Review exam and application every two years.
Download a copy of the RBSM Knowledge Review exam and application at www.bscai.org/cerification_programs/RBSM_Knowledge_Review_Application.pdf.
Complete the exam and re-registration application and submit with payment to the Certification and Registration department via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than July 1 to be eligible.
Finally, BSCAI has a key alliance with ISSA—our member-free access to the ISSA/Interclean® event every year— now that our events are paired up, your trade show attendance is included in your registration fee.
CBSE and RBSM Lifetime Certification
If you’re a CBSE designee who is 62 and has renewed your certification at least twice, you are designated for life.
No further reporting is necessary other than notifying the Certification and Registration department, in writing, of meeting the age requirement.
If you’re an RBSM designee who is 62 and has renewed your designation at least three times, you are designated for life. No further reporting is necessary other than notifying the Certification and Registration department in writing of meeting the age requirement.
BSCAI is proud of our certifications and you should be too! You will begin to see more focus on promoting our designations to the industry, tools you can use to publicize your achievement and new ways for your customers to find professionals who have invested in achieving this level of designation.
If you have questions about renewals, ideas for improvement or ways that you and your company can promote your designation, we want to hear them. Please contact BSCAI at (800) 368-3414 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Licensed in all 50 states and the provinces and territories of Canada, HUB provides insurance and risk management solutions for small to mid-sized companies—"main street" businesses just like the majority of BSCAI members.
“Our firm has realized excellent results with HUB International,” said BSCAI President-Elect Sally Schopmeyer, Maintenance, Inc. “They are thorough in analyzing our insurance needs and understand our industry. Their pricing is competitive and the coverage of risk is complete.”
